Jul 23, 2023 | Uncategorized

The Florida Business and Finance exam is a requirement for every contractors license granted in the construction industry in Florida, including General and Building Contractors, Air Conditioning Contractors, Roofers, Plumbers, and about 14 more categories.  The exam covers a wide range of topics, including business law, accounting, economics, and financial planning.

The passing score for the exam is 70% and the test is 120 questions long, taken over six and a half hours. While this is in fact a daunting task, it is definitely possible to pass the exam with focus and practice.

Here’s how to pass the Florida Business and Finance Exam for the construction industry:

  1. Read the basic test prep offered here on for free when you buy the books from us, or buy it here for $50 if you already have your books. This plus a couple of weeks of practice might be enough for you if you’re very familiar with the material, or are a very good test-taker!!
  2. Create a practice schedule and stick to it. The best way to learn is by practicing regularly. Create a schedule that works for you and stick to it as best you can.  Consider an hour a day for a few weeks, using the free (when you buy the books) test prep bundle offered here.
  3. Use practice problems to assess your knowledge and identify areas where you need to improve. Our advanced test prep for sale on contains our method of writing your own practice problems!  There is no way to get actual problems that have been used on the test.  The state does not release them!  We will show you how to write the problems the way the test prep company writes them.
  4. You have a little less than 3.1 minutes to find the answer to each problem.  If you are consistently finding answers in the three “easy” reference books in two minutes, and in 4 minutes in the critical, most densely packed book in four minutes, you’re very likely to pass.
  5. Find a study buddy or join a study group to stay motivated and answer each other’s questions. Studying with others can be a great way to stay motivated and answer each other’s questions.
  6. Practice working out the ratios in the Accounting book – be familiar with the basic math needed to find the missing piece of information the test will ask you to find.
  7. Take breaks when you need them to avoid getting overwhelmed. It is important to take breaks when you need them to keep your body comfortable – that will give your mind a chance to survive this grueling endurance test of an exam.

On the day of the exam, be sure to:

  • Arrive early and relax before the test.
  • Bring the required identification and materials.
  • Read the instructions carefully and follow them exactly.
  • Take your time and answer all of the questions.
  • Ask for breaks as frequently as you need them.  While they cost you time, they recharge your body, mind, and spirit.
  • If you have any questions, ask the proctor for help.

Passing the Florida Business and Finance exam can be challenging, but it is definitely possible with hard work and dedication. By following these tips, you can increase your chances of success.

More Tips
